Who's your Trust Volunteer of the Year - nominations for the 2019 award now open!

Our volunteers are our heartbeat - without them young people in recovery from cancer simply wouldn't have the chance to transform their lives through our Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust trips. That's why we're excited to announce nominations for the 2019 Luke Gilbert Volunteer of the Year Award are now open! Volunteers are heroes in many different ways. Sometimes just one supportive word or empathetic ear can be the difference in a young person taking a life-changing step. Meanwhile, our fundraising volunteers enable the Trust to raise money to support more young people in recovery, and simply by being there every trip volunteer means another group of young people can rediscover the confidence to seize their futures. So who made a difference or went above and beyond as a volunteer last year? How to nominate To be eligible, the nominee will have volunteered on a trip or at an event in 2018 and must not be a skipper or a paid member of the Trust team. Who is Luke Gilbert? The Luke Gilbert Volunteer of the Year Award was introduced three years ago in celebration of the Trust’s legendary volunteer, who sadly passed away in August 2016. Luke’s incredible personality, sense of humour, enthusiasm, compassion and a huge amount of fun made him an amazing volunteer and an inspiration to everyone he met. The 2019 award winner will have demonstrated all the qualities that Luke embodied, following in the footsteps of past winners Paul Gavin (2017) and Rosie McIntyre (2018).  The nominations will be judged by an independent panel that includes Luke’s Mum Julie, Fiancé Angie, Sue Morgan MBE, Dave Hobin (Trustee and paediatric oncology consultant), Sue Morgan MBE,  Frank Fletcher (Trust CEO), Kerry McMillan (Operations Manager, North) and  Laura Davis (Operations Manager, South) The winner will be announced at the Volunteer Training Day.
