The Ellen MacArthur Trust receives over £40,000 at London Boat Show 2006

9th January 06

•  The British Marine Federation and National Boat Shows presented a cheque for £12,265 - funds raised at a Gala Dinner in Association with Southampton Football Club in September. Held at the prestigious St Mary’s Stadium, the event was a huge success with the auction providing the majority of the money raised.
•  The Derbyshire Building Society have raised £6,367.51 for the Ellen MacArthur Trust since the affinity account was opened in July 2005. The Derbyshire were inspired to launch a special savings account called the Ellen MacArthur Trust and Rainbows Children’s Hospice Account which donates £1 for every £100 saved continuously over a year. The donation is split equally between the two and the sums can be impressive with one such affinity account raising £250,000 in one year.
•  Little Britain Challenge Cup presented a cheque for £19,700 and agrees to continue its support for the The Ellen MacArthur Trust.
•  Royal Southampton Yacht Club continued to support the Ellen MacArthur Trust with the ‘500 Club’ throughout 2005. There has been a great response to the project that costs members a fiver a month to participate. Ex-commodore Roger Townsend commented “Ellen has had such a strong association with the Club that supporting her trust seemed appropriate.”

With the support of organisations like the British Marine Federation; National Boat Shows; The Derbyshire Building Society; Little Britain Challenge Cup and the Royal Southampton Yacht Club, The Ellen MacArthur Trust will be able to take more children recovering from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illnesses from all over the UK sailing during 2006.
