Ready to go for Round the Island Race 2017

We’re all set for our busiest weekend of the year here at the Trust! Not only have we got 24 young people joining us across four boats for the Round the Island Race (which starts in less than 24 hours!) but we’re also hosting over 100 cyclists and runners from J.P. Morgan Bournemouth who are fundraising for us by running or cycling varying distances around the beautiful but undulating Isle of Wight landscape. We have lots of keen volunteers to support them as they go but please give them a wave and cheer them along if you see them out!

Oh, and not to be shadowed by activity around the little island, we’re also still sailing around the big island with the Round Britain 2017 crew on Moonspray in Newcastle this weekend. Pop and say hi to them in Quayside if you’re nearby on Saturday.

So, lots of exciting things happening up and down the country!

All the young people sailing with us this weekend have sailed with us before but they haven’t necessarily taken part in the Round the Island Race before so there is a lot of excitement on the pontoons right now!

The wind is looking spot on at the moment and we don’t want to speak too soon but it’s even looking dry so fingers crossed for a great #raceforall; sailors, cyclists and runners!

Yesterday our young people were quick to make new friendships and had a packed afternoon in preparation for the Race.  Introductions, team building exercises, safety briefings and boat prep all formed part of the busy schedule with the evening reserved for a spot of cooking onboard followed by a team crabbing competition.

Taking to the water today, the young people will learn the ropes and have a practice sail with their new crew mates - a chance to get a taste of what is to come…

This evening our sailors will enjoy a team BBQ and ice creams before heading back to their boats for an early night ready for race day. 3am alarms set!

Visit our stand in Cowes Yacht Haven tomorrow where you will find some of our lovely friendly staff and volunteers who can tell you more about the Trust and how you can get involved.

We will be fundraising all weekend to rebuild the confidence of even more young people in recovery from cancer and want to put a big shout out to all those boats who have chosen to fundraise for us as a crew this year, thank you!

To donate text RTIR17 and the amount you would like to donate to 70070 or go to our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/emtrust/roundtheislandrace

This year we are looking for as many pictures as possible to share with the young people taking part in this exciting event so they can look back on some great memories; for this, we need your help please!

Look out for our yachts on the water for your chance to win a Trust goody bag consisting of a hoody, a water bottle and a cap!
