Opening up the water to all with Finisterre

New seasuits and hijabs on outdoor adventures will remove barriers to accessing and enjoying the water this summer

A group of four women posing by the water, all with a hand in the air joyfully, wearing seasuits which are shown to be loose fitting and hang off the body There are all sorts of reasons someone might not want to wear a traditional wetsuit.

The typically tight-fitting gear is not suitable for those whose religion requires modesty. Others may not feel very confident wearing one and would rather an extra layer or different design. There are health reasons too: wetsuits might not provide coverage from the sun some people need.

Thanks to the Finisterre Foundation, there will be four seasuits available on our outdoor adventure trips that aim to remove these barriers, so all young people and team members can get involved and enjoy water-based activities free from worry.

There will also be four hijabs too, which are quick to dry, lightweight, and securely fitting, Like their seasuits, Finisterre's hijabs also come with inbuilt SPF 50+ protection, perfect for spending time in the outdoors.

Opening up the outdoors

Finisterre’s seasuits are designed to open up the outdoors.

Where a wetsuit is figure-hugging, seasuits are designed to fit loosely on the body, masking physical contours without restricting how we move in the water.

They can be worn on their own or over a wetsuit – but, given the temperature of the UK’s waters, we will recommend wearing them over a wetsuit on our adventures! Where available, those who either need or want to use them as an alternative to typical wetsuits, to better cover up the body, will be able to do so this summer. We hope introducing seasuits and hijabs helps young people and team members feel more able to access our outdoor adventure trips and is a step forward in our Ambition to build belonging.
