One of the most exciting parts of an Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust adventure is opening up a drawstring bag of goodies at the start of the week and unwrapping the year’s Musto t-shirt.
These awesome tees feature a design created by a young person as part of our annual Musto t-shirt competition.
2024 saw lots of inspirational and creative entries, all of which brought the magic of the summer to life. Thank you to everyone who entered – it was amazing to see your art and your ideas. We loved each and every one of them.
We are delighted to announce the winner of this year’s Musto t-shirt competition is Chrissy.
Chrissy was just two weeks away from graduating university when she was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in 2019. The aggressive tumour started breaking the surrounding bones in her shoulder, and she felt her future was slipping away from her.
Flash forward to 2022 and her first sailing trip with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
After enjoying four days on the water, she said: “Going sailing was quite surreal. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do anything like it. I’d opted out of quite a few things since having one working arm. I didn’t know how much I’d be able to get involved. I didn’t know if people would get annoyed by me if I didn’t get it right, because my arm was completely in a sling.
“But they said I can get involved as much or as little as I want, and they help you all the way if you need that extra hand. I felt proud of myself that I managed to do the ropes and even steer the boat with one arm.
“It really has boosted my confidence in my body. I know my limits a bit more because I’ve been able to push them with that support. I felt more optimistic about the future.”
Chrissy’s winning design is featured to the right and shows a colourful fleet of yachts sailing towards young people standing with their arms round one another, symbolising feelings of togetherness and belonging.
We can’t wait for the finished version of the t-shirt to launch in 2025 and see Chrissy's design across the backs of hundreds of young people next summer.
Thank you Musto
