Young people can find they need support at different points after treatment.
For some it’s immediate, for others it can come some years afterwards when, for so many possible reasons, reality can kick in and things can get hard.
Whenever a young person needs support, the Trust is there for them. But, many young people, especially those who feel they were never in or are no longer part of ‘the system’, can be hard to reach and don’t even know they can turn to us.
That’s where you can make a difference 😊
Every year we keep a number of places back on our trips – under and over 18s – for such young people.
We call them ‘self referrals’, but basically it means anyone who is aged 8-24 and in recovery from cancer can come to us independently and enjoy all the benefits of being involved with the Trust.
As Trust supporters and beneficiaries, you know what this support can mean in getting young lives back on track after cancer.
So if you know someone who is struggling or could simply do with a bit of support, however long off treatment they are, we would absolutely LOVE to hear from them.
Still time to sign up this summer
There are still a few self-referral places available for trips this year so if you know someone who would like something new to look forward to this summer, or wants to get ahead and on the list for next year, get them to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out the form below.
This Girl Did!
Anna Fox from London got in touch with the Trust in 2017 after finishing her treatment for Lymphoma, as she struggled to reintegrate back into her life and always felt like the odd one out. That was until she set sail on her first trip on the Isle of Wight when she was 24.
Anna said: “Trust trips are an incredible opportunity for young people like me to discuss how tough our illness was with people who understand. It was great to be physically active again and to interact with others.
“The trips are unique because they give us the opportunity to learn new skills while having fun, it’s not about the cancer but everybody understands as they have been through similar situations.”
Now 26, Anna has been on two Trust trips and looks forward to returning to enjoy a Longer cruising trip around the West Coast of Scotland this summer.
