Jane discovered her joy of the outdoors and the positive effect it has on physical and mental wellbeing when she moved to the Lake District. Together with her husband, she took to the nearby mountains, and those of Scotland and the Alps, before a love of sailing came along, and they spent lots of time on the water off Scotland’s stunning west coast, close to our base in Largs.
She succeeds Joe Burnie as our Treasurer on the Board of Trustees, who steps down after nine years.
About her appointment to our Board of Trustees, Jane said: "I feel very privileged to be part of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. It’s inspiring to work with a charity that makes such an incredible difference to the lives of young people who are building a life following cancer treatment.
"I know first-hand about the effects of cancer and the positive impact of the outdoors. Having access to this charity can be transformative for both young people and their families. It is a real pleasure to be working alongside a team of talented and passionate people who are committed to the delivery and growth of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust’s brilliant work."
Jane joins us after a wide-ranging career, from working as a Senior Manager in audit and Corporate Finance at PricewaterhouseCoopers, to Head of Group Finance at Manchester Airport Group PLC. A complete career and life change accompanied her move to the Lakes, where she became Managing Director at CGP Books, an educational publisher.
Now semi-retired, Jane is studying for a Masters in Medical Law and Ethics at the University of Edinburgh, and is also a Trustee for St Mary’s Hospice. She continues to do finance project work and support other charities, like the Wainwright Animal Shelter and Birmingham Hospice. She spends a lot of time with her partner and their dog Jack walking the fells and cycling around the Lake District and Scotland.
Joe was a key part of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and a familiar face (and friend) to many for a decade. As well as getting hands on as a volunteer Mate on some of our sailing adventures, Joe was also the inspiration behind, and completed, our inaugural 600-mile Largs to Cowes charity cycle between our two bases, the first of which was in 2019. The event was repeated in 2022 (without Joe this time!)
A passionate cyclist who did a cycle mechanic course in 2017, Joe also repaired bikes in return for a donation to inspire young people living through and beyond cancer. We are extremely grateful for Joe's dedication and support during his time on the Board and hope he makes the most of his 'retirement' enjoying more cycling and sailing in Chichester Harbour.
