J.P.Morgan Bournemouth Present Cheque to Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust

A cheque totalling £29,788.84 was recently presented by J.P. Morgan Bournemouth employees to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. The funds were raised during the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race in July - one of the largest sporting participation events in the UK. This impressive fundraising total now means that over the last 10 years, J.P. Morgan employees alone have raised enough money to fund 316 young people on a first time, four day sailing trip, to aid their recovery from cancer.

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, who aim to give young people in recovery from cancer the chance to rebuild their confidence through sailing, has been the Official Charity of the race since 2007, alongside J.P. Morgan Asset Management's 12 year title sponsorship.

This year, as 1,584 boats crossed the start line to compete in the 55 nautical mile yacht race, 137 cyclists from the J.P. Morgan Bournemouth office started their own 62 mile course around the Isle of Wight. Their challenge was to beat the fastest boats in the race as well as 120 of their colleagues who were competing on yachts. Just like the winning boat Phaedo³, the cyclists were breaking records on the day with the quickest team cycling around the Isle of Wight in just 3 hours and 15 minutes.

The team of fundraisers didn't end there though as 52 people from the Bournemouth and London office showed their support by joining in the charity run on the day. A combination of 5K runners and half marathon goers pushed themselves to the limits across the Isle of Wight's undulating landscape with 13 other staff members volunteering along the routes.

Richard Jordan, Site Manager at J.P.Morgan in Bournemouth said, "We are delighted to again be supporting the great work of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. We really recognise the Trust's work for young people, and through a combination of sailing, cycling and running, it's a great chance for our staff to get involved too. The race conditions were very fast on the water and we had a lot of fun on the day."

Launched in 2003, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust gives young people, aged 8-24 and in recovery from cancer, the chance to rebuild their confidence through four day sailing trips. Now in its 13th year, the Trust has grown beyond every expectation into a national charity and now works with every young person Principal Treatment Centre and a growing number of Designated Units across the UK.
