Halle inspires CarFest fans

This year Halle will be telling CarFest fans why the funds raised are so important to young people living through and beyond cancer.

A girl named Halle is steering a boat. She is wearing a blue life jacket and a blue cap, with the ocean visible in the background.

Halle, was just four years old when she was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour (kidney cancer). It turned her family’s world upside down. She had to have a kidney removed, and life became a blur of hospital stays, treatments, and uncertainty. But last summer, aged 11, Halle set sail on her first Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust adventure, and it was a turning point.

For Halle, who had spent so much of her early life in and out of hospitals, this was the first time she could be truly independent, surrounded by people who understood. She embraced every moment, from learning to sail to laughing with new friends, and it gave her something she hadn’t had in a long time – a sense of freedom.

A brighter future

Halle’s first sailing adventure was a chance for her to step outside the world of hospitals and be a child again. She loved being with other young people who had also faced cancer, where she didn’t have to explain anything – they all just knew. It was an experience that helped her grow in confidence and see that there is more to life beyond everything she has been through.

Now 12, Halle is outgoing, enthusiastic, and passionate about musical theatre. A stage is her happy place, and she can't wait to share her story at CarFest this summer.

A promotional poster for "Car-Fest" sponsored by BP Pulse, taking place at Laverstoke Park Farm, Overton, Hampshire during the Bank Holiday Weekend from 22-24 August 2025. The poster lists various musical acts including Travis, Rita Ora, Madness, Busted, Sam Ryder, Squeeze, and Tom Walker among others. It also mentions other entertainment such as comedians Chris Evans and Lee Mack and presenters like AJ & Curtis and Ben Miller. The bottom of the poster highlights additional attractions like food stalls and car displays with a tagline "So Much More Than Just Cars."

For families going through what hers did, Halle’s mum has one message: “The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is like a rainbow amongst the grey. It’s a chance for young people to rediscover joy, to find adventure, and to feel encouraged to embrace life again.”

Funds were generated through onsite fundraising, Sporting Bears Dream Rides, and Chris Evans' exclusive Gig in the Garden headlined by James Blunt, bringing the grand total to over £176,000.
