You might have spent some quality time gathering with friends and loved ones in the recent heatwaves across the UK. We’re asking you to keep that energy up and Gather for Good this September to make more possible for young people living through and beyond cancer, together.
Whether you are reconnecting with classmates at the end of summer, heading back to work after a holiday, or your club is starting back up, bring the people in your life together in September and raise money so we are here for even more young people who need vital support.
Check out our Gather for Good page for all the details on how to get involved and how to turn your idea into reality.
Erica, a familiar face as a volunteer on Largs sailing adventures, is taking part with her friends at Fairlie Yacht Club: “Gather for Good is a great opportunity to come together with friends to raise some money for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and have some fun at the same time.
“I am delighted to organise an event with Fairlie Yacht Club at its muster on the island of Bute this September. As club members we have forged lifelong friendships through shared sailing experiences, and it is therefore particularly appropriate that we use this opportunity to raise funds to support the excellent work of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust in providing similar experiences for young people in recovery from cancer.”
Over in Bexley in the south east of London, Lucy and her bowling club will meet and enjoy a coffee morning together. Helio Mirror Bowls Club have named us their charity of the year and we are delighted they are continuing this fantastic support by gathering for good this September.
Lucy volunteers for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, but when she was younger she went through two years of chemotherapy for leukaemia, before relapsing at seven and receiving chemotherapy again, full-body radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. Having joined the charity’s transformational adventures, she now helps other young people believe in their brighter future.

She said: “Most of my childhood was spent in a hospital, it became my second home. The hospital environment and having cancer became my normal. Growing up I was scared and had feelings of shame to talk about my cancer journey.
“But attending my first trip with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust when I was 18, and on multiple trips afterwards, I found that sense of belonging and optimism. I’ve met so many amazing people and I’ve made lifelong friends, knowing that I’m not alone in the adversities that I face. Embracing my cancer journey, it is a part of my recovery, and I’ve learned that what I’ve been through has made me the person I am today and I couldn’t be prouder.
“I’m now a volunteer for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, I support other young people on their trips. I want them to understand that there is someone they can always talk to and that there’s a place where they are accepted.”
What could you do this September? Check out our Gather for Good page to get inspired, tell us your idea, and set up your fundraising site. Together, we will change young lives this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
