Thinking of planning a fundraiser to support young people in recovery from cancer but not sure where to begin? It can be daunting at first, but the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust’s Community and Individual Fundraiser, Christina Micklewright, is here to help.
Whether you’re organising an event of your own or want some tips to hit your target, there are many ways Christina can support you to make your fundraising a success.
Here’s a couple of handy tips and words of wisdom to get you started…
How can you support our fundraisers: My job is to look after anyone who wants to do a fundraising activity, either as part of a community group or by themselves. I can give fundraising advice along the way, offer support in setting up an online giving page and send branded goodies that can be used during the event to promote the cause.
Top tips: Remember that when you’re fundraising, just because an event is over it doesn’t mean that you’ve finished the job! A lot of donations continue to come in after the actual event has been completed, so keep that online fundraising page open just a little longer! Also don’t overlook the contribution of your employer, as many will offer support or even match funding, meaning that you can potentially double everything that you raise. It’s worth checking!
Favourite part of your job: I love hearing all about the things that people have planned and finding out how I can support them. It’s also great when people send in pictures of their fundraising events, because it’s great to see people coming together to support the Trust.
Any words of wisdom: Remember the most important part of fundraising, which is the ‘fun’ part! Whatever you choose to do will be raising money for a fantastic cause, and if you can have a great time along the way then it’s a win win situation! Get family and friends involved so you can make a few memories, whilst ensuring that young people who sail with us in the future will have the opportunity to do the same thing.
