This May, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is proud to be taking part in A Million Acts of Hope - a nationwide movement running from 13–20 May that brings together charities, community groups and faith organisations from across Britain to celebrate the everyday kindness that connects us all.
A Million Acts of Hope was born from a simple but powerful belief: that despite what the headlines might suggest, millions of people across the UK show up for each other and their communities every single day. From neighbours helping neighbours to volunteers giving their time, these quiet acts of hope and generosity happen all around us and this May, they're being celebrated together. We will be making our contribution on Tuesday 19 May with two beach cleans setting off from our bases - one from East Cowes on the Isle of Wight and one from Largs on the west coast of Scotland.
Both locations are home to the sailing adventures that young people living through and beyond cancer enjoy every summer. The waters around the Isle of Wight and the Firth of Clyde have provided the backdrop for so many life-changing moments - moments of courage, friendship and freedom for young people who have been through so much. By rolling up our sleeves to protect these coastlines, we're giving something back to the seas that give so much to us.
We know how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such a wonderful community of volunteers and team members who give their time, energy and hearts to everything we do. A Million Acts of Hope felt like the perfect chance to spread that joy and community spirit a little wider - to be part of something bigger, and to show that kindness, when it comes together, really does add up.
Feeling inspired? Whether it's a litter pick in your local park, a kind gesture for a neighbour, or something entirely your own - we'd love to hear how you're marking A Million Acts of Hope this May. Share your ideas and stories with us, because every act, no matter how big or small, counts. Get in touch and let's celebrate hope together.
