Calling all medics - come volunteer for us!

Are you a registered doctor, nurse, or paramedic? You could make a massive difference in inspiring young people to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer by volunteering on an Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust sailing or outdoor adventure trip.

Volunteer applications are now open for 2023 and 2024 and we want to hear from you!

Volunteer medic Annie Winfield-Shearer at Longtown Outdoor Learning CentreIf you would love an inspiring, fun way to use your medical skills to make a difference to young people, this is your chance.

Qualified medics are required to accompany young people on trips, providing support and occasional medical assistance. Medics get fully immersed in all aspects of the trips to ensure the maximum enjoyment and safety of all young people.

You don’t need sailing experience, or to be paedaetric or oncology trained.

What would I be doing?

You will be available for medical advice or support throughout the trip, and collect and supervise the taking of medications. Being vigilant for warning signs of conditions, such as neutropenic fever, is a key part of the role, and you will assist with First Aid.

You will be briefed on anything individual you need to know, it’s your general medical background that matters.

Medics with sailing experience can also be Mates or Crew Leaders and take duel responsibilities on a yacht.

Why it matters

Our Ambitions for the next three years are to be accessible to all young people who have a cancer diagnosis in the UK and have the biggest impact possible on every one of them. To support more young people, we need more medics.

So, if you or any of your friends, family, colleagues, or contacts are doctors, nurses, or paramedics, and might like to use their skills to support young people on our sailing and outdoor adventure trips, please apply and/or encourage them to apply too.
