A Decent Proposal

Nothing says “marry me” like abseiling 100m down the side of an iconic building! But that’s exactly what Greg Whitaker and Georgie Sheldon did just minutes after Greg popped the question at the top of Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower!

Kent-based Greg, 27, and Georgie, 31, met on a Trust trip in 2011 having both undergone treatment for brain tumours. Their relationship grew and six years later Greg wanted to make a statement as he got down on one knee. The Trust’s Spinnaker Tower Abseil in July provided the perfect answer.

Georgie was so excited that she spontaneously decided to join Greg on his descent. “I didn’t want to leave him,” she says. “After everything I have been through I never thought it would happen. Cancer really does take away a lot of your identity and confidence in life, but the Trust bought us together.”

Through the Trust Georgie and Greg discovered a new-found confidence, gained a sailing qualification and a partner for life.

Together they raised over £1000 for other young people who have quite literally been in the "same boat" as Greg explains "I have gained so much from my trips with the Trust, it’s such a privilege to raise money to help other young people. The Trust even helped me find my soul mate!"

The Trust would like to wish them both the very best as they set sail on an exciting future together.
