5girlsinaboat is a registered charity raising money for Cancer related projects by competing in adventurous yacht racing. This year 5girlsinaboat, will be racing in the Sevenstar Round Great Britain and Ireland in conjunction with the Royal Engineers Yacht Club, competing in their X332, Ilex of Upnor as 5girlsinaboat…..and a bloke!. The race will be skippered by the REYC Bosun, Lawrie Taylor. Our two beneficiaries this year are the Ellen MacArthur Trust and the Sussex Snowdrop Trust.
The 7*RGB&I is a non-stop, 1760 mile race starting on Monday 7 August 2006 and will take us approximately 2 - 3 weeks.
The prequalification for entry is that the skipper and 50% of the crew compete in 500 miles of RORC offshore racing in the 12 months preceding the start of the race, in the yacht in which they will be competing.
We have now identified the pre-qualifying races:
Start date Race
29.04.06 The Ceervantes Race (Bank holiday weekend)
27.05.06 The Myth of Malham Race (Bank holiday weekend)
17.06.06 The Morgan Cup (24/36 hour race)
13.07.06 Cowes - Dinard - St Malo Race (4 days)
Further information about these races is available on the RORC website: http://www.rorc.org.uk
‘Ilex of Upnor’ will also be competing in the Warsash Spring Series (starting on 12 March for 6 weeks excluding Easter weekend), this will provide an opportunity for girls who are interested to try her out.
A small contribution charge will be made for the Warsash Spring Series to share the cost of the charter fees. For the 7*RGB&I and the pre-qualifying races, race fees and charter fees will be covered by the 5girlsinaboat charity, but there will be a small charge to help towards provisions.
