2025's Musto t-shirt competition winner

And the winner of 2025's Musto t-shirt competition is...

Every year, hundreds of young people are given a sun-safe long-sleeve Musto t-shirt ahead of their sailing or outdoor adventure, and every year, a young person is behind the stunning design on its back.

That artwork always captures something about the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust’s essence. That’s why it’s designed by those who know best: young people who have been on a transformational trip.

Thank you to everyone who sent an entry into this year’s competition. As always, choosing a winner was a challenge due to the vibrant, imaginative, and inspirational submissions we received.

We are delighted to announce the winner of this year’s Musto t-shirt competition is Chris.

Chris was only three years old when he was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumour, a kind of kidney cancer. Now 18, he doesn’t remember much about his treatment, but he does remember driving an electric toy car on the way to his operation, trying to keep off the walls, and when he woke after the operation to remove the tumour and his kidney, looking in the bin to see if his kidney was in there!

He has since enjoyed two sailing adventures from Largs in the last couple of years, and says he can have conversations that you wouldn't normally have with your other friends on the trips.

His winning t-shirt design features one of the charity’s iconic blue boats being pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle. Speaking about his inspiration, Chris said: “We were sitting on the back of the boat sailing back Tighnabruaich when the idea of the jigsaw was created. It shows there are so many different parts to a trip and how they all join together to make such a great experience.

“The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a great way to get people enjoying life again and back into the outdoors. As someone who has been through cancer, you can really see how people change during the week and how we all become more confident. Everyone is so caring and friendly to each other, and the trip allows you to have conversations you wouldn’t normally have with your other friends.”

Chris’s winning design is featured in a mock-up to the right, and a finished version will appear on the t-shirts given to the hundreds of young people who will experience the magic of a sailing or outdoor adventure next summer.

Entries to design 2027's t-shirt will open at the start of next season's trips - ideas at the ready!
