Pre-trip medical information

Before your trip, there are a few other things to remember if you have certain medical requirements.

I take replacement Hydrocortisone and have an Emergency Hydrocortisone Injection

it is essential these items are bought to the trip. You MUST check all parts of the Emergency Hydrocortisone (needle/syringe/liquid/powder/water) are present in the kit and it is in date. These items will be checked at the meeting point before you will be allowed to travel. If they aren’t present, or are past the expiry date, unfortunately you won’t be able to attend the trip.

I am at risk of an anaphylactic allergic reaction and have an emergency adrenaline auto-injector

it is essential you bring TWO in date adrenaline auto-injectors on the trip. These items will be checked at the meeting point before you will be allowed to travel. If they aren’t present, or are past the expiry date, unfortunately you won’t be able to attend the trip.

I have a portacath fitted

We require a blood count to be taken in the 7 days before the trip, IF the port will have been accessed at any point in the 4 weeks before the trip. For it to be safe for you to come on the trip, this blood count must reach the following levels: Neutrophils – 1.0, Haemoglobin – 80 and Platelets – 70.

If the count doesn’t reach these levels, you unfortunately won’t be able to attend the trip. If the port will not have been accessed at any point during the 4 weeks before the trip, we will NOT require a blood count to be taken.

I have a PICC/Hickman line fitted

We require a blood count to be taken in the 7 days before the trip. For it to be safe for you to come on the trip, this blood count must reach the following levels: Neutrophils – 1.0, Haemoglobin – 80 and Platelets – 70. If the count doesn’t reach these levels, you unfortunately won’t be able to attend the trip. The line must also be flushed before the trip, preferably 48-72 hours before it starts.

I am receiving maintenance treatment, immunotherapy and/or am at risk of neutropenic fever

We will ask for a full blood count to be taken in the week before the trip. For it to be safe for you to come, this blood count must reach the following levels: Neutrophils – 1.0+, Haemoglobin – 80+ and Platelets – 70+. If the count doesn’t reach these levels, you unfortunately won’t be able to attend the trip. If these results are constantly unattainable, please call us to discuss.

If you are currently in receipt of treatment solely with oral targeted inhibitor drugs (for example, Debrafanib, Trimetanib, Imatanib, Ceritinib, Regorafenib, or similar), we need to see a normal blood test (Full Blood Count) done within a month of the trip start date.
