Safety
The safety of every young person on the trip is paramount to the Trust. The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust operates under the safety management of the UKSA for our Yachting Activities, and Bradwell Outdoors for our Dinghy weeks. All staff and volunteers who work with the Trust are Enhanced CRB checked before sailing with young people. All skippers are commercially endorsed Yachtmasters.
Before arriving for their trip, the young people’s hospital consultant is required to sign a form consenting to them being at no risk medically from sailing with the Trust and the medical form details are also checked by our paediatrician before the young person is given a place on a trip. Every parent receives a handbook detailing who they can contact in an emergency, as well as details of what to bring etc, and they are phoned before their child comes on a trip to double check contact information, go through any issues that may need highlighting and answer questions.
TESTIMONIALS
“It is great to see the smiles on peoples faces and give something back to The Trust. I hope that sharing my experiences can help them. This week has been great; it has been mainly water fights with a bit of sailing!!”
- Chris, Trust Graduate Volunteer
TESTIMONIALS
“Joe enjoyed the whole trip but sailing with Ellen was the highlight. Joe will be back hopefully next year and I know when he is 18 he will volunteer. It was lovely to see him looking forward to something so much. Thank you so much for asking Joe on the trip. Words cannot express our gratitude. It was something we talked about when Joe was very ill in hospital. Just pleased his dream did come true!”
- Mother of Joe, 15
