£7,565 presented to Trust by LBCC
The Trust was one of nine sailing charities to benefit from The Little Britain Challenge Cup’s sailing regatta in 2011.
The Little Britain Challenge Cup (LBCC), the construction industry’s major annual sailing regatta, presented the nine charities with cheques at a special reception held at Domus Tiles’ new Clerkenwell showroom in East London.
Despite the knock on effect of the ongoing recession, the LBCC had managed to raise £37,000 for their designated sailing charities from the 2011 event. Recipients benefitting were Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, Skandia Team GBR Paralympic Sailing Team, the Jubilee and Cirdan Sailing Trusts, Cowes Sea Cadets, Island Youth Water Activities Centre, St John’s Ambulance, Solent Rescue and Cowes Sailability Trust.
Frank Fletcher, CEO of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust said, ““The support over the years from LBCC has made such a huge difference to the Trust. Yet again in 2012 they and all those who take part in the regatta have made it possible for us to take more young people in recovery sailing. I’d like to thank all those from LBCC for making it possible for us to change the lives of these young people”
The 2012 Little Britain Challenge Cup http://www.littlebritain.co.uk, running from Thursday 6 until Sunday 9 September, will be celebrating its 25th Silver Anniversary. Taking place in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, the construction industry’s action-packed three day sailing regatta will be attracting a large cross section of organisations and individuals who are involved in the building world.
Tony Poole of Sheppard Robson, 2012 LBCC Chairman commented, “Since this event began 25 years ago, the LBCC has generated to date a substantial £1.25m benefiting many deserving charities. We were delighted to have managed to continue this valued support through several recessions, and are confident, in this our Silver Anniversary Year, we will make it a memorable occasion, for both our loyal supporters and charities. “
Today over 100 boats compete in the Solent and, with racing organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron, making this the ultimate networking and team building event. After racing each day, the crews, their guests and spectators are entertained with pontoon parties, dinner and live entertainment, which runs through until the early hours.
Entrants can choose between 1, 2 and 3 day packages, to ensure that the maximum number of sailors have the opportunity to compete and join in the celebrations in this historic year.
The weekend will build to a climax with the glamorous Celebration Dinner, where winners are announced, and step up to take home a cherished Silver Anniversary LBCC trophy.

TESTIMONIALS
“The week has been the best! I never I thought I would get the chance to do this, and I am glad my nurse told me about the trip. The best bit is being on the boat and just sailing around and even getting to steer! I’ve made loads of new friends, I’ll definitely stay in touch.”
