How we use your money
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a charity that gains all funds from donations and fundraising activities.
The Trust is very careful that all monies raised or donated are not wasted. Staffing and administration costs are kept low and volunteers help out free of charge. This means the majority of funds are used for our sailing operations, and we pride ourselves in having grown year on year to reflect our increased fundraising activities. We organise a number of fundraising events ourselves, for example a ball during Skandia Cowes Week from 2006-2008 and several events in conjunction with our Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain voyage in 2009. We also actively approach companies and individuals for donations and sponsorship of our dinghy weeks and yacht trips.
All costs associated with our trips are covered by the Trust.
As the children come from all over the country travel costs vary so we base our summer four-day-trip costs on an average of £500 per child. This includes (but is not exclusive to) travel, food, yacht hire, professional Skipper, waterproofs and lifejackets along with all additional activities such as rib rides, swimming and team building.
For our Bradwell Residential Dinghy Week we estimate it costs an average of £400 per child for the week, including but not exclusive to accommodation, food, all activities and all safety equipment.
By supporting the Trust and signing up to give a regular monthly amount or by making a donation, you can help us increase the number of young people we take sailing. To give you an idea of what your donation can help with please see below. Any amount, no matter how big or small, quickly adds up to help us continue doing what we do.

TESTIMONIALS
“This is the first time I have been sailing, and I never thought it would be this good! I have really enjoyed the trip and learnt loads like how to tie knots, use the winches and hoist the sail. I would definitely come back again to see the friends I have made”
- Jorge, 15
TESTIMONIALS
“Joe enjoyed the whole trip but sailing with Ellen was the highlight. Joe will be back hopefully next year and I know when he is 18 he will volunteer. It was lovely to see him looking forward to something so much. Thank you so much for asking Joe on the trip. Words cannot express our gratitude. It was something we talked about when Joe was very ill in hospital. Just pleased his dream did come true!”
- Mother of Joe, 15
